Intern in Singapore

• Internship by World of XChange- Mission, Tasks and Learning Objectives
Advertising was a totally new area for me. On my first working day I had absolutely no knowledge about what people actually do in the business of ads which has a fabulous shin to the outside world. I was thrown in at the deep end by my boss into different projects. And I realized this business is anything but fabulous. As an account executive who is the correspondence between the client and the team needs to have a clear mind and cannot lose track of all the projects which are in different stages of the ad-production. It is his responsibility to satisfy the client and to let the team know what needs to be done. My boss decided to let me learn by doing and I was handling a project on my own after I had sit in for meetings, took part of creative executions and observed the actual advertisement productions. The company gave me space to unfold my ability which I really appreciate, they only interfered when I had troubles. In this way I could really see what I’m capable of.
Today, on my last day of work, I can say with proud that I have seen all the stages of different types of advertisement. My boss was really giving effort that this could be made possible. But I also realized that in this business there is a lot of susceptibility demanded which you can only learn with working experience. Beside this I was really lucky that I was working for a regional agency which means we advertised for different countries in South East Asia because this is also how I got to know the variety of the culture since we need to understand the ethics first before attracting the folks with our ads.

Life in Singapore- Food, Transportation & Visa
Life in Singapore is quite unique. What people do the most here is shopping and eating. For lunch I mostly went with my colleagues to the food courts/coffee shops. They serve all different kinds of food but for very cheap, the average spent in a food court would be 5S$. I usually take the MRT to work which is the metro. Surprisingly the amount of money I spent on the public transportations is quite a lot (approx. 50S$/month). In other hand the taxis here are really affordable.
First I had trouble to get the work permit hence I couldn’t get into the country for a while and that’s how my internship was shortened by one month. But the company didn’t give up and once the application was approved everything went smoothly and there were no extensions required since the internship only lasted for three months. Also I want to say many thanks for the support to the team of World of XChange that enabled the organisation and placement of my internship.

General Satisfaction: VERY POSITIVE
I must say to have taken an internship in Singapore was definitely one of the best decisions in my life. I have learned so much and met so many lovely people. I was never treated like a foreigner, I always felt like one of them. It was a one-time experience that I will never forget.

• Hallo Ameli500,
